How does facebook advertising differ to Google Adwords?

People use Google to search for products and services they're interested in buying.

Facebook users are different. People on Facebook are socialising - they are essentially catching up with friends and aren't generally searching for a solution to a problem or for something to buy.

Because Facebook users aren't actively searching you can't target them based on keywords they are typing in (which is how you target ads on Google).

But that's OK, because you've got even more powerful information at your disposal, such as their age, gender, location, likes and anything else contained in their profile.

This means you can stay in front of them with your offer, which increases the odds of them clicking on your ad significantly.
