Here’s the strategy we use to drive new business at Web Profits

In this episode, Alex shares one of the most powerful strategies he knows for growing a business fast.

Hey, this is Alex Cleanthous, Chief Innovation Officer at Web Profits, and today I’ll be sharing one of the most powerful strategies I know for growing a business fast.

Now for those of you who don’t know me, I have a stutter and it comes out when I get excited, and this stuff is exciting… so let’s get into it.

The strategy I’m talking about is the combination of Exceptional Content, Facebook Ads, and Email Marketing. Let’s cover each of them in detail.

At the very core of this strategy is exceptional content. I recently read an article from Rand Fishkin of, where he spoke about why good content needs to die. I agree with his thoughts 100%. It’s not just about creating good content, or great content… it’s about creating exceptional content. Content that is so good that people stop and say ‘wow, that was good’. Without exceptional content this strategy will only achieve a fraction of the results it could.

When you’ve created some awesome, exceptional content, and published it on your blog, you’re now ready for the second part of the strategy – Facebook Ads.

Facebook Ads are one of the most powerful methods of driving traffic, exposure, leads and sales of any paid traffic source available today. But it requires a more sophisticated approach than say Adwords or Search. That’s where exceptional content comes in.

By publishing exceptional content that gives your prospective customers insight into how your business can help them, and then advertising that content on Facebook, you’ll be advertising your business to your target market in one of the most subtle advertising methods of all… education.

The third and last part of this strategy is email marketing. This is what brings it all together. If you have an email database already, that’s great. You send an email to your database every time you publish something new to your blog. Additionally, with the content you advertise on Facebook you can really grow your email database fast by using a combination of SumoMe apps and Content Upgrades (I’ll be writing an article about how to use this shortly, so stay tuned).

With the right approach you can convert anywhere from 5-15% of people who read your article into an email subscriber, which you can then leverage with email marketing. And keep in mind that you’ll also be building up a remarketing audience of people who have read your content, which is far more valuable than anyone else you can target on Facebook.

You can then use Facebook Ads and Email Marketing to create campaigns designed to convert readers and subscribers into leads and sales. But more about that later.

So to recap.

  1. Create exceptional content that gives insight into your products / services and publish it to your blog
  2. Advertise that content to people who fit your target market demographics using Facebook Ads
  3. Build up an email database from people who visit your blog, and then email them every time you post something new to your blog.

You can then use Facebook Remarketing and Email Marketing to drive new leads and sales with offers related to the content you’re publishing.

This is a super-powerful approach to online marketing that I see very few marketers, agencies and business owners using… but it’s one of the most powerful strategies we’ve developed over the last few years.

It might sound simple… but the devil’s in the detail… and if you get the detail right, you’ll understand why this is such a powerful strategy.
